      <image:title>Drawing is Lifeblood - Musings about Macharaviaya</image:title>
<image:caption>I drew this while in the air on the way to Spain while other passengers slept. It was an image of the village where we were going to be visiting for several weeks. The light emanating from the tower was a total fantasy. I don't even know why I drew it, but it was powerful for me. When we arrived at the village we were greeted by an architect from Argentina who was in charge of refurbishing the village church (which I had drawn). He invited us to go up into the attic of the church, an enormous cavern with rounded concrete shapes under scaffolding. I had had a dream about such a place weeks before, not knowing anything about this place. We carefully made our way to one end where we climbed up a stone wall to peer into a sunlit tower...it was the area above the church altar! Pure magic. This was the actualization of my drawing done days before on the airplane! Synchronicity for sure!</image:caption>

<image:title>Oceanic Prima Materia - Note to Self (Refuse to be the Muse)</image:title>
<image:caption>This painting has gone through several modifications over time. It started out as a floral painting when I was at the end of my “floral” stage back in the 1980’s. I wanted to start a new phase with the addition of some of my figures. I had added other materials, but decided later to basically just use the figures to represent a certain feeling. As I look back the feeling in the painting has not changed.</image:caption>

<image:title>Oceanic Prima Materia - The Thief on His Right</image:title>
<image:caption>It was told that Christ was crucified with two thieves. This one represents the inferior function of the psyche which in this case is on the right side ( rational, linear, balanced, light). However there is a possibility of an enantiodromia happening between the two psyches. The four flowers represent the four functions of the psyche; thinking, feeling, intuitive and sensate. This is a painting of the movement between all of these psychological parts. Nothing has become concrete quite yet so this is possibly an alchemical phase just before coagulatio where the process reaches a more solid point.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I was born here October 6, 1945. Leadville once had several large brick structures like this, many of which were lost to fires throughout my lifetime. Luckily this one survived demolition. Others were demolished to be replaced by distasteful "modern" buildings or just empty lots. Historical buildings in architecture are the struggling, disrespected minorities of modern life. Luckily this one is now condos that have amazing views! ….And I get to drive by to see where I was born. Other memories in this little town have been renovated beyond recognition or are totally missing.</image:caption>

<image:caption>No electrical wires are buried in Leadville! One learns to ignore them. There is not a big enough economy even with the huge molybdenum mine nearby to fix a lot of infrastructure here. In the 1950's the Climax Mine provided good funding that enabled Leadville to build good schools. Here is a typical snow-covered roof struggling to hold the weight of winter. This is a metaphor for how the town struggles to hold the weight of decline and soon the cold eye of the developer.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Photography - Winnie who was Winston</image:title>
<image:caption>I inherited this amazing bird from a woman who had developed Alzheimers and could no longer keep “him”. When I got “him” I immediately took “him” to be “sexed” and found out that Winston was a girl. I re-named him “Winnie”. She had been with the previous owner for 23 years. I had her for another 15 or so years. She was totally amazing. She “argued” with us, mostly sounding like an angry old lady and nestled in my neck for naps on the couch. We started traveling and i just felt she needed another stable environment and I had met a really official “bird-lover” to whom I offered Winnie. She went on to another owner. I miss her so much but this is better for her long life…as birds tend to have. I love you Winnie-bird.</image:caption>

They had been on the streets. A happy ending though, because I convinced my friends to take the mother cat. They have given her an amazing home to live out her years. Good story. The Dude is a masterpiece and loved our bird Winnie and would spar with her. Animals are the very best part of my life in some ways.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This is a pastiche of a painting my parents kept hidden away in their room. They felt it was too risque for children’s eyes. That made it even more intriguing. I always wanted to be an artist and this early exposure to such painting gave me inspiration, in spite of the subject matter! It was fascinating and gave me the urge to be a good painter. So I started painting at about 11 years with oil paint after trying my hand at “paint by numbers” which I found quite enjoyable.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Examples of my artwork - Through a Glass Darkley</image:title>
<image:caption>I did a portrait of a long time friend with whom I spent a lot of time growing up. The painting depicts something of her personality, dark, quiet with a love of pets and collection of antiques. I decided to make the piece into a crazy lamp with a vintage mid-century lamp and crinoline skirt shade. I'm pretty sure the lamp is worth more than the whole piece, therefore priced accordingly.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Examples of my artwork - The Desruptor</image:title>
<image:caption>Trump as he disrupts everything, money is at the base of all he does. The bull bleeds but still stands. Melania admires herself while wearing “I really don’t care, do you”? jacket. The boys Bevis and Butthead stand at the ready and Ivanka poses. Statesmen remain silent in their places while Trump is the puppeteer of the Maga hats as he himself is the puppet of Putin’s gloved hand. Trump uses the flag to fool everyone.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Started when I was painting the iris over and over. This one came back to me after being discarded by its owner. <image:title>Assemblage - Cross Over Time-Time to Cross Over?</image:title>
<image:caption>The word Crucifix from ecclesiastical Latin crucifixus, and Latin cruci fixus ‘fixed to a cross’ describes a powerful image in the Christian culture with the Christ figure fixed there. But a cross, itself is meaningful in many cultures and comes in many forms. For many years I was almost obsessed with circles and circular canvases until a mentor pointed out that most of his (very powerful) paintings were the opposite of my circles and curves...they were more "masculine" in that they often formed a criss-cross or cross shape. This was only an observation, not criticism, and I then became very interested in crosses, and trying to work in more angular styles. This felt rather liberating in some manner. I collected crosses (and still do) I also came to own a lot of wrist watches which I hardly ever wear. The metaphor occurred to me "fixed in time" as the crucifix, and several other phrases, "crossing over time", etc. So the "time pieces" went on the aluminum mandala with the crosses.</image:caption>

Sergio, our care-keeper and friend was told by Thach, "Don't show those to Karen" but somehow I did see them and they ended up in one of my "Dark Art" pieces. There wasn't a lot I had to do to get the picture across.</image:caption>
